Perfecting the All Nighter

Perfecting the All-Nighter

It was 9:00am on a Wednesday morning, and by noon I had 0 hours of sleep.  I seriously feel like I invented the word ‘distracted’ and per my last blog, procrastination sometimes seems to be my thing.  So hey, why not do a How-To on how to perfect the notorious All-Nighter as well?

1)      Make laundry list of everything you need to get done

- Be detailed! Include all the nitty gritty. On mine, I had weird details like re-read the syllabus, research for 10 minutes on Google, spend 5 minutes to think of a title (include times!!!)

2)      Handle one item on your list at a time, and make sure to check them off

-  I use empty circles as my bullet points, and I cross them out as I go through the list. It makes me feel a weird sense of accomplishment…

3)      Give yourself periodic breaks

-  You know and I know and we all know it is not fun working straight through 25 hours, so include those 10 minute breaks

-  (I use this as my excuse to facebook for no apparent reason, what about you?)

4)      DISCONNECT YOUR INTERNET*

-  If you don’t need your internet, then take out the cord or pull out your router, etc. Even try unplugging your TV, putting your phone on silent, etc… This may limit your distractions

-  (Or maybe this is more just for me and my ADD tendencies…)

5)      Take a deeeeeep breath

-  PACE YOURSELF! Throughout the night, I would look at my list and go in mini panic mode because it looked overwhelming. But if you follow rule #2 and 5, you won’t feel rushed, you will finish, and you’ll get more oxygen to the dome

Those are the five biggest points that helped me out. Now go off you good little college students! Pay three dollars for that energy drink, and go out and get ‘em tiger!

Making mistakes so you don’t have to,

Carla

I only disagree with #5 . For any ftuure college students here is my input. My college runs in a quarter system and I do repeat these steps at times even when I am working efficiently. If repeating works for you and you actually have time to manage repeating do it. This article is just for guidance but tweak if if you like. some people read these comments and articles very carefully and trust it’s information. I know I did but it’s not a rule book/rule blog.I repeat steps so I can retain the information I need to know or simply to enjoy an interesting topic. I was thinking of my Business Leadership class as I type this. By the way, if the blogger or writer reads my comment, I did love everything else! So true!*Also, I am a full time student with no job. I agree it would be different if I did have a job.Oh and what is my gpa? all B’s with some A’s here and there. if B = Bad Fine shame me on it. To me if I pushed myself A’s would flow in but I am not going to die from having B’s. now C’s and lower eek. that = Cr** I avoid C’s!5. Work efficiently. Each task is done well — and once.-True, it’s nice if All assignments simply were finished once around, but there will be some courses that require a repeat. There’s no listening to the lecture a second time on their mp3 player (they paid careful attention the first time).-This depends I suppose. I never have used anything to record a lecture but nonetheless I think if I needed to, it would have been for that difficult to understand, heavily accented Russian instructor for mathNo copying over all their notes (why would they do that if they have a good set from the lecture?).-well some college students (Ms. or Mr. Editor) would recopy notes! Its a way to retain information! (ok I agree not All of their notes, like you said they should have a pristine copy) but I do have trouble with complex theories that just won’t stay in my noggin and I hand write the main points about at minimum 10 times or more until I know for sure in my gut that I have this in my memory! I especially use it in my German class for vocabulary! Hahahha so many articles to remember! der, die, dasNo doing the reading three times (once for a general overview, once to understand the argument or direction, and once to focus in on the finer points).- I sometimes, varying on the difficulty of the subject, read a paragraph or so for general overview and to understand the argument/direction. Especially if I find the topic interesting! In a fifteen-week semester, with four or five courses on tap, who has time to do things twice (or, in the case of some students, thrice)?-I am on a quarter system and I do have time because I don’t have a job but as I said earlier I do agree that having a job would cram everything a bit more for me and balancing school work, social life and a job would be tough. I simply do not want anyone reading this article to take it too much to heart and feel stupid for repeating steps.

  2. Hi Rosemary,Thank you for updating me on missing classmate Richard Wells. You were right that he was not inthe class of 1962. I had recently emailed his brother Dan, and he informed me that Richard hasbeen teaching and living in China the last six years.Regard, Charlene (Demonet) Fisher

This is gonna sound sooo cheap, but when I was an undergrad I worked as an RA. Sometimes we were taken out for lunch to the Olive Garden. We would eat all the breadsticks and salad and then take the actual meal home for dinner. Cheap, I know, but it worked. Happy now?

I don’t know where you are getting a cappuccino, but for the sake of this post, let’s say that you are going to Starbucks, okay? From reading your post I can guess that you aren’t much of a coffee drinker, but that’s okay!A cappuccino is mostly foam, so you’re probably thinking about a latte (mostly steamed milk, and a bit of foam at the top and espresso.)If you don’t like the taste of plain coffee, then lattes are the way to go.I highly suggest getting some kind of syrup in it, because they don’t come sweetened. Vanilla is really good.In a tall there is one shot of espresso, and in a grande or venti there are two, so if you want more coffee, get a grande or venti.Yes, it will keep you awake. If you are worried about the cost, than get an americano (espresso and hot water). Again, syrups are a fun way of making them taste better. (Espresso content: Tall: 2 shots of espresso, Grande: 3, Venti: 4)I hope you do well on your test!

  9. Cassidy Brooke – Haha so funny that the first blog post I see, is about some random guy that went swimming with us. I had fun tonight, it was great meeting you! And I hope that you can come by again
